The Police and Crime Commissioner for Swindon and Wiltshire, Angus Macpherson, has set a 1.9 per cent rise for the policing part of the Council Tax – or precept – for 2017-2018.
After public consultation the rise was supported today (February 2) by the Police and Crime Panel.
The police precept will be £170.27 for an average Band D home – up from this year’s £167.10. That rise of £3.17 equates to 6p a week.
It means that Mr Macpherson will get an extra £790,000 of local income. But he will have £814,000 cut from his government funding – leaving him with an almost standstill budget for the year ahead.
