New ticket machines for Marlborough's car parks

Written by Tony Millett.

Wiltshire Council are going to replace the ticket machines in Marlborough's car parks.

This news will delight those residents and visitors who have to trudge up and down the High Street and around the off-street car parks looking for a machine that is working.

It is not quite clear whether the new machines are in response to complaints about the current, unreliable machines, or simply to the introduction of the new one pound coin.

This 12-sided coin that is being dubbed the 'the most secure coin in the world', becomes legal tender on March 28.

It is estimated that about one in thirty of the current one pound coins is counterfeit.

The coin bears the Royal Mint's fifth coinage portrait of Her Majesty the Queen.
