Storm Doris brings down a horse chestnut on Frees Avenue
It narrowly missed a resident who was walking her dogs. She reports it made a terrific noise as it came down.
The tree is quite obviously very rotten. Marlborough.News has been told that it is almost certainly not the result of the horse chestnut leaf miner (Cameraria ohridella) which only affects leaves. But it could be a case of 'bleeding canker' that can affect the trunks of horse chestnuts. Or it could simply be old age.
