Glasses much more than half full: Aldbourne pub's charity record

Written by Tony Millett on .

The Aldbourne Band is one of the latest recipients of the generosity of patrons of The Blue Boar pub on Aldbourne’s village green.

Landlord and landlady Michael and Joanne Hehir regularly close the pub’s restaurant to host charity auctions, and over the last three years have raised just over £25,000 for local community groups and national charities.

The self-funding Aldbourne Band recently received a cheque for £1,000 from an evening in October when one of the items up for auction was the conductor’s baton. Musical Director David Johnson had recently directed the band in their Albert Hall appearance at the National Brass Band Championship finals where the band was placed in a highly creditable ninth position.

The Aldbourne Band can next be heard in performance in St. Michael’s Church, Aldbourne on Saturday, April 1 - starting at 6.00pm. The concert will also feature musicians of the Aldbourne Youth and Junior Bands. Tickets at £10 will be available at the door.
