Police appeal for witnesses and information after two young girls were 'touched inappropriately' by a man

Written by Neil Goodwin on .

At around 5:00 pm yesterday, Thursday 18 May, the two girls aged seven and eight years were in the restaurant area of the Bear Hotel, Marlborough.  A man approached them and tried to hug them, touching them inappropriately as he did so.

The girls were able to inform their mother of the incident who challenged the man.  He then left the premises.

The man is described as Asian, 5'9, of slim build with dark receding hair.  He was wearing a black hooded top and dark trousers.  He was carrying a pink plastic bag.

DC Erin Martin said:  "We are following a number of lines of enquiry in order to identify this man and patrols have increased in the area.  In order to help us prevent any further incidents we ask that anyone who recognises the man described above or who has any information which could assist our investigation comes forward.

"The girls did exactly the right thing in quickly telling a parent about what had happened.  Hearing of this incident will be concerning to the community and is a timely reminder for all parents/guardians to talk to their children about stranger danger."

Anyone with concerns can contact their local Community Policing Team via 101.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Erin Martin at Salisbury CID on 101. Or call Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 where information may be left anonymously if preferred.
