Wiltshire Council makes further changes to bus timetables - & some cuts
Wiltshire Council is altering the bus services - including school buses - on routes servicing the Marlborough, Burbage, Bedwyn and Hungerford area. The routes being altered are 19, 20, 21, 22, X20, 95 and 217. Two routes - 95 and 21 - are being cut.
These changes will take effect on August 14.
Route 95 has been just one bus on weekdays - leaving from Barton Park at 08.07 and terminating in Pewsey North Street - during term time this service has stopped at St John's and Pewsey Vale School.
The 21 service has varied routes linking both Marlborough and Pewsey to Bedwyn station. Most of the 21 services are being replaced, but the last weekday bus from Marlborough to Bedwyn station will in future leave at 18.20 rather than at 19.23.
Three 21 services to Bedwyn station leaving Marlborough High Street at 15.35, 17.23 and 18.36 are going. They will be replaced by 20 route services leaving at 15.28, 17.03 and 1820 - they will stop at Savernake Hospital.
However, the 21 service that left Bedwyn station for Marlborough on weekdays at 19.50 and picked up at Savernake Hospital at 20.01, has been cut. This means the last bus into town from the Hospital will in future leave the bus stop on the A4 outside the Hospital at 18.11.
The Council say the changes will enable the routes to be operated "...in a more cost effective manner using fewer buses". The changes include running fewer early morning and late afternoon journeys and a 'simplified route' in Hungerford.
As part of these changes, shoppers' buses 19 and X20 will be run by Tourist Coaches instead of Thamesdown Transport. The X20 service (which leaves Marlborough at 1010 going via Froxfield & Hungerford to arrive at Newbury at 1055 and returns two and a quarter hours later) will run on Fridays instead of Tuesdays.
Copies of the new timetable are available from the Town Council offices in the High Street.
