The Public Enquiry regarding the application to protect amenity land at College Fields by registering it as a Village Green will start on 9 January 2018.
The Enquiry will be held by a Planning Inspector and is expected to last three days. The venue is not yet fixed – but it will almost certainly take place in the town.
The application to preserve the land as a Village Green was made and supported by residents of Barton Park and College Fields. It was opposed by Marlborough College who want to use the land as access to their proposed housing development to the north of the current houses.
When the issue was discussed at Wiltshire Council’s Eastern Planning Committee, both sides accepted that a Public Enquiry would be the fairest way to decide the issue.
Views on the matter are complicated by the fact that the housing development to be accessed through this piece of land will include a new building for Preshute School which now occupies buildings in Manton which are not really fit for purpose.
