Audition dates for Marlborough Players' production of 'My Boy Jack'

Second Lieutenant John 'Jack' Kipling, Irish GuardsSecond Lieutenant John 'Jack' Kipling, Irish GuardsMy Boy Jack has been selected as the Spring 2018 production by the Marlborough Players.

The play - by actor David Haig - centres on Rudyard Kipling's son John 'Jack' Kipling who as an eighteen year-old Second Lieutenant in the Irish Guards was killed during the Battle of Loos in September 1917.

Rudyard Kipling, who had arranged for his short-sighted son to join up, was devastated by his death - especially as Jack's body was never found.

The play's title is also the title of Kipling's poem about a lost son.

The play was seen on television in 2007 with Daniel Radcliffe playing Jack.

It is a fitting choice for the Marlborough Players in what will be the final year of the First World War centennial commemorations.

Auditions will be held at the Quaker Hall, The Parade - near the Fire Station - on Sunday, 29 October at 2.30pm and on Monday, 30 October at 7.30pm.

The auditions are open to all actors.
