Members of St Mary’s Church in Marlborough to help people take control of their finances
Members of St Mary’s Church in Marlborough wanted to help people from the Marlborough area who are suffering a squeezed household income and in danger of getting into financial difficulties to get on top of their household finances.
So in conjunction with members of the Gorse Hill Baptist Church in Swindon, who have completed specialised training from UK charity Christians Against Poverty, they are offering a short course in financial management aimed to help people chart their household income and take control of their expenditure.
Money coach Juliette Plank, who will be leading the sessions called the 'CAP Money Course' said: “With households feeling the squeeze on their disposable income, we’ve all got to get a bit more savvy about our money to get through these tough times. If you know how to save and budget effectively, it can have a hugely positive impact on the whole family.”
St Mary’s Church is one of more than 1,000 churches of different Christian traditions across the UK who are regularly offering the course, as they work together to positively impact the communities around them.
The CAP Money Course has been found to be useful for families dealing with mounting bills or reduced benefits, couples saving for a wedding, newly retired people and everyone in between.
Juliette added: “We hope that we can help people, quietly and confidentially, take control rather than relying on guess work so they can plan for the future and weather the storm. There is no need to share any personal details and access to a free online budgeting tool is provided”.
The first course takes place at the Friends Meeting House, The Parade, Marlborough starting on 3 November. It will run across three sessions of two hours each, all starting at 9:30am, with the second session on 17 November and the third on 24 November. Numbers are limited, so registration is required.
