Regulator's reports on two Marlborough care services - good and not quite so good
After an inspection in September, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) have rated the White Horse Care Trust's home in Elcot Close as 'good' on all of its five standards.
The home provides accommodation and personal care for up to five adults with learning disabilities and associated health needs. The CQC found the home was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
The report found that "People were happy and relaxed. During our visit we observed people approaching staff for support and laughing and sharing jokes...People were encouraged to take par tin activities both outside and in the home. This included going to weekly day services as well as going out to lunch and day trips."
"People were also supported to be involved in day to day living skills such as cooking, cleaning and shopping if they wished to."
A CQC inspection of Marlborough Lodge in the London Road produced slightly more mixed ratings. On three of the CQC's five standards the home was rated good. But it was rated as 'requires improvement' on safety and on being well-led.
Marlborough Lodge is a small care home catering for up to 18 people - some of whom are living with dementia.
This was the first inspection of Marlborough Lodge under its new registered provider Fidelity Healthcare Limited. There were doubts about safety factors in some rooms and about cleanliness in some areas.
