Marlborough Quakers to dissect 'the economy'

'The economy, stupid' was the every day reminder Bill Clinton's campaign strategist kept on his desk in 1992.  Made a little easier on the ear as 'It's the economy, stupid' - the phrase is still used to underline the central importance in modern politics of...yes, the economy.

Marlborough's Quakers are launching a weekly reading and discussion group to delve into what 'the economy' really is and what it can and cannot be made to do for us.  They will also be asking whether there can be such a thing as 'The New Economy'.

"We will', they openly acknowledge, "all be non-experts."  The discussions - 'non-religious' and 'non-political' - will be guided by a collection of booklets produced by the Quakers called The New Economy Series.  These draw on ideas from the New Economics Foundation, but are free from jargon and difficult maths.  The free booklets can be ordered from this This email address is being protected from spambots. The group will meet on six Tuesday evenings starting with an introductory session on January 9 in the Jubilee Centre in Marlborough High Street - 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Each session is included in the marlborough.news What's On calendar.
