Development money to be used for Cooper's Meadow play areaMoney generated by the development of sheltered apartments at The Old Yard on London Road is to be used for the Town Council's planned upgrading of the play area on Cooper's Meadow.
The development by Renaissance Retirement Limited of 28 apartments has generated £288,137 in Community Infrastructure Levy (or CIL) money. The Town Council receives 15 per cent of this in several tranches as the construction proceeds.
For the first of three tranches the Council received £12,966, which was used in the refurbishment of the Marlborough Community and Youth Centre. The second tranche provides £15,127.
Marlborough Town Council's planning committee voted (February 19) - with some opposition - to add this £15,127 to the £23,894 in similar funds already held by the Town Council allotted to the play area project.
The work will have to include some new drainage as the play area has had standing water on it after the recent rains.
