Wiltshire Council asked to investigate cutting down of willowsWillow trees along the southern bank of the River Kennet behind the Bridge Garage have been cut to ground and the trunks drilled and poisoned.
Marlborough Town Council's planning committee heard (February 19) that this was possibly in contravention of the planning conditions placed on the housing development at the garage site.
Councillors passed a special written motion asking Wiltshire Council's enforcement team to investigate whether this was in breach of the planning conditions which accepted the proposal that the willows should be pollarded to a height of approximately five feet.
It is feared the killing of the roots will weaken the river bank. And residents north of the river have complained that the loss of this screen of trees has opened their homes to views of the rear of the garage.
