Snow & ice bring school closuresStudents at St. John’s are enjoying a third snow day this month. St. John’s had hoped to open at 10.30 am on Monday (March 19). A message was posted on Twitter at 7.02 am to say that Barnes and Pewsey Vale coaches would collect students two hours after the usual pick-up time.
At 8.50 am another notice was posted closing the school for the day. The canteen has no gas and so cannot provide hot meals. Many staff, who travel considerable distances, were unable to reach the school leading to insufficient staff to open the school.
However, late notice does not make it easy for parents who have to find childcare at the last minute.
St. John’s will reopen tomorrow, but whether the canteen will be able to provide hot meals remains to be seen.
Kennet Valley School in Lockeridge had a similar on-off closure - first deciding to open at 11am and then closing for the day.
Both Pewsey Vale secondary school and Pewsey Primary are closed on Monday due to icy road conditions at the schools and on approach roads.
Marlborough St Mary's is open as usual.
