Home-Start Kennet, the charity that supports struggling families, say the £19,000 grant from the Royal British Legion and £15,000 from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity will fund a new project for military families.

The ‘MIMO 2’ project launches in February in partnership with Home-Start South Wiltshire. It will offer peer group support to military parents with children under five.

Tania Rackham is Home-Start Kennet's Scheme Manager: “Parenting can be tough for any family but military life can bring its own additional challenges. By offering peer group support, parents can share their experiences, make new friends and find better ways to cope. Feedback from the pilot group was fantastic and, thanks to the generous donations from the RBL and The Soldiers’ Charity, we’re thrilled we can build on this success and support even more families.”

Home-Start Kennet helps civilian and military families in Devizes, Pewsey, Marlborough, Calne, Chippenham and Tidworth. Last year, the charity supported 107 local families which included 216 children.

Volunteers provide emotional and practical one-to-one support to families in their own home – increasing confidence, resilience and wellbeing.
