New 'Boutique Hotel' in the Parade welcomed by Councillors

At last Monday's (14 January) Planning Committee meeting at the Town Hall plans were submitted for scrutiny for a redevelopment of The Crown public house in The Parade.

If successful the former pub would be converted into a nine bedroom 'boutique hotel'.  Vacant and becoming derelict for the past year, the Grade II mainly 18th Century listed building would be converted to 'make The Crown Hotel a viable economic proposal' that would take this 'previously underutilised historic asset and create a much-needed high-end quality hotel accommodation that will be supported by a quality restaurant, bar and function room facilities that will be an attractive visitor venue and asset to the town'.

The plans would essentially keep the existing exterior appearance whilst extensively remodelling the interior to create a further four bedrooms (in addition to the previous five) making nine in total, improved restaurant and kitchen facilities, and an extended car park to the rear, made larger by the removal of the trees which were subject to a previously approved application.

The plans for the redevlopment can be accessed by clicking here.

The development is being undertaken for the new owners of The Crown - Earthline Ltd - an Ogbourne St George based earthmoving company.

Councillors voted unanimously to approve this application.
