The Devizes Constituency Green Party is getting prepared in case Theresa May calls a snap general election. They have announced that Emma Dawnay will be standing again to take on sitting Conservative MP Claire Perry.
“We’re making ourselves ready” explained Emma. “The one thing we know is that everything is uncertain”…”We’ve taken the view that it makes sense to be ready” she added.
Whilst not actively campaigning for an early election The Green Party is strongly in favour of a ‘People’s Vote’, a second referendum as Emma made clear: ”In the event of the current ‘Theresa May deal’ being rejected by Parliament, the obvious choice will be to take it back to the people for a People’s Vote'”…”We’re not hoping for an election shortly but we nevertheless believe that it’s sensible to be prepared because anything might happen”.
Emma expressed her concern that that Brexit is stifling all other activity: “What’s awful is that we are not addressing so many of the problems that our society is having to deal with. So many homeless people on the streets, little progress towards getting more renewable energy going and everything else has been sidelined because of Brexit, we’re not improving things on any front, it’s going backward.”
