Claire Perry takes ministerial leave of absenceClaire Perry MP is taking a break from her responsibilities as Minister of State for Energy and Clean Growth to look after a family member who is unwell.
In a tweet the MP for the Devizes constituency wrote: "I am extremely grateful to Theresa May for allowing me to take a temporary ministerial leave of absence to care for a family member..."
Universities Minister Chris Skidmore MP is taking over her brief - alongside his existing responsibilities, which include education reform and science, research and innovation. A statement from No. 10 Downing Street described Skidmore's new role as 'providing temporary ministerial cover for the energy and clean growth portfolio.'
The news website BusinessGreen pointed out: "No indication was given of how long Perry's leave might be. It comes at a crucial moment in climate change policy, as the government considers whether to follow the Committee on Climate Change's advice for the UK to adopt a net zero emissions target for 2050."
