Marlborough pudding raises £1,000 for food bank

Marlborough's Rick Stein restaurant has donated its first £1,000 to the Devizes and District Food Bank.  The money was raised from sales of its Marlborough Pudding.

Rick and the team added the pudding to the menu earlier in the year, with 50p from the sale of each pudding going straight to the charity. The recipe for the dish was taken from Wiltshire to America by the Pilgrim Fathers in the 17th century.  It is still famous in New England.

The cheque presentation The cheque presentation It consists of a baked tart of Bramley apple, eggs and cream, dry sherry, cinnamon and nutmeg, finished with a glazed Italian meringue and served with warm custard.

Head Chef Kev Chandler, and General Manager Kevin Cole presented the cheque to Liz Starling from Devizes & District Food Bank. Kev Chandler commented: “The pudding is a great celebration of our heritage and has been very popular with our guests. With their support, it’s wonderful to be able to donate our first cheque to the local food bank.”

Liz Starling is delighted with the funding: “We’re thrilled to have the support of Rick Stein, Marlborough and it’s amazing that such a great amount of money has been raised already.”

Diners can still enjoy the Marlborough Pudding in the restaurant on the a la carte menu and on the £24.95 three course set menu.
