Ooh la la… French day at St Francis…magnifique!

Recreating Monet's gardensRecreating Monet's gardensLearning another language starts in the nursery at St. Francis School, Pewsey. Last week, Junior French Teacher, Madame Milly Woodard organized a special French Day for pupils in Little Saints Nursery and Pre-Prep.

The children came to school dressed in French costumes. There were lots of berets and Breton t-shirts but some dressed as Coco Chanel, Marie Antoinette and there was even a French rugby player! The hall was decorated with French bunting and red, white and blue balloons.

There were French games of pétanque and petits poissons and a French treasure hunt  around the grounds with a prize of French pencils for the winners. The main event in the afternoon was the Grand Tour de St Francis - a series of cycle races of different distances for everyone from the youngest in Saplings up to the oldest in Year 2.

Year 2 ready to go in the Tour de St FrancisYear 2 ready to go in the Tour de St FrancisThe older children did several laps of the circuit and had to stop at the landmarks : Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower and Mont Blanc – for a handstamp. The finale was a race for the Mamans and the Papas twice around the course at a fast and furious pace! The winners were Mme. Kathryn Butler for the Mamans and M. David Pack for the Papas!

It is hoped that the French Day will become an annual event.
