As Christmas excitement mounts children and staff in our local primary schools have been preparing and performing nativity plays.
Marlborough St Mary’s children performed a musical nativity play called ‘The Inn-spectors’ to residents from Coombe End and to parents and grandparents.
Teacher Kath Black told marlborough.news: “On Tuesday 18th December it was a magical day at Marlborough St Mary’s as all of the children in the Infant classes performed their Christmas Nativity, ‘The Inn-spectors’. The children in Year 2 took on the roles of all the key Nativity characters as well as six very important inspectors who had a very important job of checking that all of the Inns in Bethlehem were up to scratch! Luckily after a lot of hard work and deliberation the “Inspectors” were pleased to announce that the stable was in fact Fit For A King!! Hooray!!”
Headteacher Anne Schwodler said, “It was one of the best nativities we have ever had. The children were really confident and the singing was amazing. The three soloists, Mary, the Star and the Donkey did a really good job. They were fabulous.”
At Preshute Primary School the whole school was involved in the nativity play which was held in Marlborough College Chapel. This year all Year 6 pupils had speaking parts and reception class pupils acted out the play. There were musicians and each class sang their own special Christmas song which also told the Bible story.
Toni Holness, reception class teacher said, “This is a traditional nativity. It’s a nice way to teach the Christmas story and all the children enjoy it. It’s a great way to develop speaking and listening skills and to involve the whole school community.”
Claire Graham, Headteacher, told marlborough.news ,“The children and staff have worked very hard for the nativity. It’s always a fantastic start to the Christmas holidays and great to be carrying on the Preshute School tradition. Many thanks to Marlborough College for letting us use the chapel which means we have room for all the parents, grandparents and friends to come to watch.”
