Marlborough Rugby: Positive result from unconvincing performance

Marlborough 13 - 11 Walcot

On a bitterly cold afternoon and with snow on the ground, Marlborough put in an unconvincing performance but they dug deep to once again defend exceptionally well.

The Walcot pack had the upper hand in the scrums and this is something coaches Leo Tuliva and Lotu Ngungutau will be working on.  The lack of good ball and also the cold meant that there was not a lot of flowing rugby.

Centre Jamie Laing was moved to outside half and then scrum half as a number of unavailable players meant the regular half backs were missing.  Laing showed his strength to dive over at the base of a ruck to get the home sides only try of the game.  This was converted by Nathan Morgan.  Garth Bari also kicked two penalties.

The performance was certainly not one of the sides best but it is another win and the improvement in commitment and defence is clear to see.

Next week Marlborough travel to Blandford.
