Marlborough Town have gone two points clear at the top of the Wiltshire League after a 3-1 win against Trowbridge.

Marlborough went into Saturday’s game joint top with Shrewton, and knew that going away to Trowbridge would be a difficult one as it has been in the past.

But they went out with good attitude and being positive for the right result.

Marlborough went 1-0 down in 15 minutes from losing the ball in the middle of the field while they were pressing up the pitch. But that pushed the players even more to get on top of things.

Marlborough pushed hard through first half and Josh Gregory put a lovely through ball to top goal scorer Devan Bryan to make it 1-1 at half-time.

In the second half Marlborough had most possession and things were looking tense at 1-1 until Craig Simmons perfectly put a ball over the top of the defence for Devan to make it 2-1.

Still, it was nail-biting only being in front by one goal until Trowbridge went down to 10 men through a red card.

Marlborough took advantage of the extra man and Craig Simmons sealed the win with a close range effort in front of goal.

All the lads were pleased with the result and also made it even better that Shrewton only drew 1-1 against Melksham, putting Marlborough two points clear at the top.

Marlborough face Royal Wootton Bassett Town FC Res at home of Saturday. Kick off 2.15pm.
