Marlborough CC - 2012 Season

Marlborough's woes continue, courtesy of Nationwide

Marlborough's woes continued with a home defeat to Nationwide House in the match kindly sponsored by Colin Davies Design and Build which now sees the Savernake Forest side firmly in a relegation dogfight.

After losing the toss and being asked to field Marlborough's bowlers struggled to contain House's batsmen with Stuart Archer 74, Dave Cootes 44 and John Clarke 37 helping Nationwide to a healthy 234-9 off their 50 overs with Marlborough youngster Harrison Painter 4-45 the best of the bowlers for the home side.

In reply Marlborough's Tom Norris 41, Duncan Lorrain 39 and Magnus Painter 24 all battled hard to chase down the victory target but Nationwide's Andy Lewis took 5-32 with the ball to ensure victory for his side as Marlborough were bowled out for 177.

Cricket: Marlborough sink at home by 5-wickets to Lechlade

Marlborough slumped to defeat at home to Lechlade in the game kindly sponsored by Velcourt Ltd as their recent disappointing form continued.

Put into bat by the away side Marlborough slumped to 109 all out with only George Fox 19, Magnus Painter 16 and skipper Nick Crabbe 14 making an impact with the bat for Marlborough, with Rahal Dyhani 3-16 and Luke Sellers 3-30 sharing the bowling honours for Lechlade.

In reply Adrain Stenner 29, Paul Godding 23 not out and Luke Sellers 18 not out ensured that Lechlade reached their victory target in the 38th over for the loss of 5 wickets.

Despite the defeat Marlborough skipper Nick Crabbe was staying positive" I thought we put up a really good fight in the field with superb performances from our spinners, we'll now go forward and take and build on the positives from the game".

Cricket: Excellent winning start to Marlborough's league campaign

Marlborough's league campaign finally got underway with a comfortable victory at home against Spye Park in the game sponsored by the Wellington arms public house of Marlborough.

Put into bat by the visitors Marlborough openers Nick Crabbe with 23 and Ben Head 19 gave the home side a solid start.

With batsmen Pete Day marking his return to the club with 40 and useful lower order contributions from Harrison Painter 34 not out and Peter Grant 17, Marlborough reached 202 for 8 off their 50 overs with Mark Hulse 3-32 and Dean Wallington 2-37 the pick of the bowlers for Spye.

In reply Spye's batsmen struggled to deal with the bowling of Head as the Marlborough all rounder took 5-21.  Russell West 48 offered some strong resistance for Spye but young bowling pair Cam Gordon 2-26 and Paul Smith 2-22 ensured that Marlborough secured victory dismissing Spye for 129 all out.

Skipper Nick Crabbe was delighted with the win describing it as a " good all round performance especially considering we had four players under 17 in the side who all emerged with great credit from the game".
