Match Report
West Of England Premier League (Wilts Division)
Marlborough v Winsley 22nd August 2015
Marlborough 130 all out; Trowbridge 131-4
Winsley won by 6 wickets
Marlboroughβs inconsistent second half of the season continued on Saturday as they lost at home to the leagueβs bottom side Winsley. Marlborough however remain in 3rd place in the table as 4th placed Marshfield lost away at Westbury.
Marlboroughβs Captain Arran Dickinson lost the toss for the 12th time in his 15th game as Captain and were again put into bat by the visitors on a badly rain effected wicket. The Forest side were soon in trouble as they lost 4 wickets in the first 10 overs for just 13 runs with Winsleyβs Kegan Smart taking 3 of the wickets.
Marlboroughβs fortunes were not to improve despite a brief respiteβs with a 33 run partnership between Dickinson and the returning Tom Palmer and partnerships of 33 and 49 between Palmer and Brad Frost and Will Langton respectively. Marlborough were eventually dismissed for a 130 off 42 overs with Palmer top scoring with 40 off 93 balls.
Winsley set about the target steadily and without risk and had taken the score to 44 before the loss of a wicket when Tom Walker was trapped LBW by Frost for 24 in the 10th over. Winsley then proceeded to knock of the runs required with the loss of only 3 more wickets with 18 overs to spare. Winsleyβs Alain Hewett finished on 46 not out with Paul Smith being the pick of the Marlborough bowlers with 2 wickets for 49 off his 9 overs.
Marlborough Captain Arran Dickinson said after the game. βItβs been another disappointing day but the toss today was crucial and Iβve not been very successful in this area all season. I think who ever batted first to day would have been very much up against it from the off. We need to put this result behind us ahead of next weekβs final game as we know a win would guarantee us 3rd place for us which is what we set out to achieve at the start of the season.β
