The organisers of the 2014 Friends Life Tour of Britain have confirmed the line-up of teams that will be racing through Wiltshire in September on Stage 6 of the cycle race – taking them from Bath to Hemel Hempstead via Pewsey.

The twenty squads racing for the Friends Life Yellow Jersey this September include ten teams who took part in last month's Tour de France, among them Team Sky, winners of the 2013 Tour of Britain with Sir Bradley Wiggins.  And he, according to his team, aims to defend his title in next month’s race.

Joining them will be a further seven UCI Pro Teams from the sport's top level, including the team currently ranked number one in the world, Movistar Team.

Six of the world's top 10 teams will be participating among them four of the top five ranked squads.

The Friends Life Tour of Britain gets underway in Liverpool on Sunday, September 7, finishing eight days later in central London. All eight days will feature in both live coverage and highlight programmes on ITV and British Eurosport.

Big crowds of cycling fans are expected to turn out to watch Stage Six of the Friends Life Tour of Britain race as it passes through Wiltshire on September 12.

Pewsey will be a magnet for those wishing to see Sir Bradley Wiggins leading the Team Sky challenge.  The cyclists will be coming into Pewsey along the Salisbury Road, pass by the church and whizz round the famous statue of King Alfred as they leave on the B3087 towards the edge of Burbage.

Wiltshire Council are providing a special section of their website to give up to date information on road closures and the best places to watch the peleton go by – in some sections of the route they will be reaching 40 kmh.
