A first league championship for Marlborough Youth Football Club U14s

New North Wilts Youth League Division 2 Champions - MYFC U14 MavericksNew North Wilts Youth League Division 2 Champions - MYFC U14 MavericksThere were scenes of wiild jubilation recently as Marlborough Youth FC U14 secured their first  league championship.  Marlborough Youth U14 Mavericks became the North Wilts Youth League Division 2  Champions on Sunday 10 March  with a 1- 1 draw away at AFC Newbury.

Consistency has been key to their success achieving ten wins and four draws out of the fifteen games across the season.  Their final match was no exception and they went ahead thanks to a fine strike from Jasper Rich midway through the first half and had to show all the grit and determination that has seen them through so far to hold on for a draw after the home team had equalised in the second half.  The single point was enough to secure the title and promotion to division one.

Jubilation after the final whistle - Champions....!!Jubilation after the final whistle - Champions....!!The team which includes nine St Johns students went ahead with a fine strike from Jasper Rich midway through the first half.  Newbury equalised early in the 2nd half, but showing the grit and determination that has brought 10 wins and 4 draws from 15 games in the season, the Mavericks held on for the point needed to secure the title and promotion to division one.

Moving on from the league, the Mavericks have the chance to make it a double with a League Cup Semi Final appearance at Beversbrook. Calne, on 31 March, kicking off at 10am.

MYFC Chair Stuart Slater congratulated the entire team and everyone who had made this achievement possible, including coaches saying that "the entire Club wish them all the very best of luck, in what would be a magnificent achievement if they can pull off the double".

MYFC have boys and girls teams for all ages, and even 'Walking Football' for the very old 'over 50's youths', and anyone wanting to join or find out more can visit the club's website at www.myfc.me.uk.
