Marlborough Youth Football Club bids farewell to longest service Coach, Geordie Foster

Geordie Foster with MYFC vice chair Jon EvansGeordie Foster with MYFC vice chair Jon EvansOn Sunday 28 April the final whistle was blown on a twelve year association for Geordie Foster with Marlborough Youth Football Club as he was presented with a unique glass plaque by MYFC vice chair, Jon Evans, a thank you for his dedication and long service to the club.

Geordie (Jon) has coached the Marlborough Magpies (MYFC's current U17/18 team) for eleven of the twelve seasons the team has been in existence but now the baton has been passed to Keith Marshall and Jon Evans.

MYFC Magpies with Geordie Foster and Keith MarshallMYFC Magpies with Geordie Foster and Keith MarshallThere have been many ups and downs over the years of Geordie's coaching tenure of The Magpies, but the highlights were promotion to Div 1 of  the North Wiltshire Football League (along with local rivals Lambourn) and a trip to Swindon's County Ground to play in the league cup final.

Over his time at MYFC Geordie has coached around fifty players as The Magpies progressed through the various age groups including family - his son Billy, who along with another team member, Charlie Wakeham has been there all the way through.

Two other players, Callum McDonald and Sam Mundy remained loyal throughout playing eleven seasons, although both  missed out on this last season.

Geordie remarked ''I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with MYFC, and I would happily do it all again in a shot!  It's the most satisfying thing I have ever done, yet at the same time the most frustrating.  My philosophy has always been to make sure the lads play with a smile on their faces and to make sure everyone gets a game regardless of ability - an ethos that runs through the entire club."

Geordie paid tribute to all involved with the club, and how it has grown over the years into a thriving, exciting club for both boys and girls football, and mentioned how proud he is to have been part of that success.
