Olympic athlete sells kit on ebay

EXCLUSIVE

Pewsey's unofficial first citizen, British Olympic athlete Shelley Rudman, is selling pieces of her kit on ebay, in a bid to raise funds for her next season.

But the generous 30-year-old, who says she is currently looking for a sponsor, is donating part of the proceeds to the Stroke Association, after her father, Jack, suffered a stroke in March.

Three pieces of kit were posted on ebay today (Tuesday), including a signed skeleton bobsleigh race suit.

While the auction item is bound to be a hit with fans, Shelley reminds bidders that it has a practical use: “If you are a bobsleigh or skeleton competitor, the suit complies with all FIBT rules and regulations and is 'race ready'," she writes in the item description.

Other items include a size six pair of New Balance trainers and a pair of skeleton bobsleigh spikes, described as 'race worn'.

The athlete, who won a silver medal at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games – Britain's only medal from the event – told her 2,500 Twitter followers today: “I'm auctioning race kit to help fund my forthcoming season.

“I haven't got a sponsor at the moment, so trying to raise anything to take the stress out of next season.”
