Marlborough Seniors win the Graham Jefferies Winter Golf League Trophy

Marlborough's winning team: (l to r) Graham Daws, Gordon Buckett, Grant Talman, John Thomas, John Parsons (capt), David Ferris, John Sprules, Sean Swords.Marlborough's winning team: (l to r) Graham Daws, Gordon Buckett, Grant Talman, John Thomas, John Parsons (capt), David Ferris, John Sprules, Sean Swords.Marlborough Golf Club Seniors have won the final play-off match in the Wilts/Berks Winter Golf League and secured the Graham Jefferies trophy for the second time.

The final was contested on a home and away basis. Played in a four ball, better ball format the first match at Donnington earlier in March was a two-all draw. The return match at Marlborough, played in very windy conditions, proved to be a tense affair.

However Marlborough’s last pairing of Graham Daws and John Sprules were up to the task, securing the vital half point to decide the match.

The team's captain, John Parsons, commented: "It was a great day. Donnington were very magnanimous in defeat. I would like to thank all the Seniors who contributed to the success of the team. Let’s hope we can win it again next year."

The Winter League was first played in 2011-2012. The following year Graham Jefferies, who is a member of Marlborough Seniors, donated the trophy that now bears his name.

The Winter League is played against other local clubs and is for players who have a handicap of 18 or lower.
