Golf club offers youngsters a ‘hole’ lot of fun this summer
A local golf club is offering youngsters a ‘hole’ lot of fun this summer – in the shape of two new sporting innovations.
Basset Down Golf Course will be the first club in the world to offer the Treasure Island nine-hole Instagolf course.
Designed by fast-growing Swindon start-up Instagolf, players are invited to navigate their way around a nine-hole course festooned with obstacles, characters, and pirate sounds.
“Instagolf is a new innovation in adventure golf – the whole course fits into a 40ft shipping container, and can be transported from location to location,” said golf club director Juliette Nutland.
“We’re excited to be the test bed for this new way of enjoying golf.”
The second innovation is a six-hole Football Golf course, which combines the skills of football with the rules of golf. Using a standard football, players have to sink their balls into enlarged holes, using just their feet, taking the fewest possible shots.
“Football Golf is the fastest-growing sport in the UK,” said Juliette, “and we’re proud to be the first club in Swindon, and one of the only clubs in Wiltshire, to offer it. We know it will be popular - everyone can kick a football!”
Both Football Golf and Treasure Island Adventure Golf courses will be open to the public this Half Term – from Saturday, May 23 – and will run until at least the end of September, and perhaps into October.
A 45-minute round of Football Golf or Treasure Island Adventure Golf, which lasts around 30 minutes, costs £3.75 per adult and £3 per child, with football hire priced at £1 per person.
The club is also offering a combined price discount, providing entertainment for £7 per adults and £5,50 per child, or £24 for a family of four. Special rates for children’s parties are also available.
Basset Down Golf Course was established by fourth generation dairy farmer Will Nutland and his wife Juliette in 2005. The nine-hole, 170-yard course is played over 100 acres of mature parkland, and a major project to extend the course to 18 holes is well underway.
