Barry Foster of North Wilts Golf Club won the 36th staging of Hills Wiltshire Professionals’ Golf Championship at Marlborough Golf Club yesterday (Thursday).
Perfect conditions prevailed throughout the day and 20 of Wiltshire’s professional golfers took part in the 36 hole event.
After the morning round there were seven players in a good position with Craig Bell of Cumberwell Park GC and Barry Foster joint leaders with one under par, second place was Dan Carter, Upavon GC at level par, third place ties on one over par were Nicholas Brennan, Bowood GC, Charlie Cossins, Ogbourne Downs GC and Henry Pallas, Hamptworth GC.
The first nine holes of the afternoon round saw Foster produce three birdies and Carter two birdies, but Bell dropped out of the running with six bogeys.
Pallas, Cossins and Brennan were one under par, level par and two over par respectively after their first nine holes.
The second nine proved disappointing for Carter after a double bogey on the 16th saw him finish one over par for both the afternoon round and the day.
Foster’s birdie on the 16th gave him a one under par finish for the afternoon round and an overall two under par for the day to secure the title.
