Jamie Amor wins Hills Wiltshire Professionals’ Golf Championship - against the odds

Jamie Amor - with the trophyJamie Amor - with the trophyJamie Amor, 21, has won the 39th Hills Wiltshire Professionals’ Golf Championship which was held at Marlborough Golf Club on Thursday, July 4 - in glorious weather.

Jamie won by four shots with a magnificent score of 5 under par for the 36 hole competition. He was presented with the trophy and a cheque for £4,000.

“I went out of bounds on 16 for double bogey and hit an awful shot into 17 for another bogey, but after a few deep breaths I got it back together down 18,” said Jamie. 

The win is particularly impressive as during the last year Jamie has fought back to fitness after a major operation for Crohn’s disease. His fitness drive was helped by running this year’s London Marathon to raise £4,600.

Also competing in the Hills Championship were Jamie’s father, Simon - the long-serving Marlborough professional - and Jamie’s brother, Ben. Ben finished joint third on level par.

Dan Carter from Upavon was second at one under after two excellent rounds of 70 and 73.

Next year will be a milestone for Hills' sponsorship of the competition – their fortieth year.
