Marlborough triumph over local rivals, Pewsey

Marlborough beat local rivals Pewsey in a keenly contested game on the Common on Saturday afternoon.  

The home side started well with a flowing backs move and a great inside pass by Will Grant to set up Russ Westcott for the first of 3 tries.  Further tries came in the first half where Marlborough took advantage of the slope to score 4 good tries.  

Centres Jonny Mantle and Nick Clarke were in good form and running very good lines.  Clarke completed a good period of possession with a superb angle and a powerful run to score.  

The loose play of the back row : Jamie Cresswell, Alex Roper and Joe Mitchell gave the home team plenty of possession which the back line was always keen to use.  The high tempo game is certainly what has been coached this season and the team were very good at playing their game plan.

The away team fought back after half time and when the score was 26-14 it looked like Pewsey could threaten a big come back.  

Westcott scored after another good break to complete his hat trick and this settled the team.  A good back move ended with replacement wing Tom Regan scoring in the corner for a final score of 38-14.

Marlborough are still close on the heels of Combe Down who top the table.
