Vunipola power added to drive Marlborough Rugby Club forward
Elisi Vunipola, uncle of England and current British Lion brothers Mako and Billy has been appointed as Director of Coaching for Marlborough Rugby Club.
He joins Marlborough from a successful period coaching in Somerset for the last few seasons earning consecutive promotions into Western Counties West for Burnham RFC.
As a player, Elisi achieved 52 caps for Tonga at fly half and played in two World Cups.
He has played rugby all over the world including Super 12 rugby for Canberra ACT, Sanyo Electric in Japan and for Bay of Plenty in New Zealand. This has given Elisi exposure to some of the world’s leading coaches including England’s Eddie Jones.
Since hanging up his boots he bas become a Level 2 RFU coach and has a lot of experience coaching not only senior players but also coaching young players including those playing tag rugby. He will be responsible for coaching across the club supporting existing coaches ensuring high standards for all age groups and players at the Club.
At a senior level Marlborough have just finished the most successful season of their history achieving 5th place in the Southern Counties South league.
The 2nd XV - Alfred’s Nomads - were also promoted and the Club now boasts the highest number of players, from Under 6’s to Vets. Marlborough Rugby Club set out to be a family club, to encourage everyone to enjoy watching, playing and supporting rugby at all ages and levels.
