Marlborough U13s Rugby: U13s complete weekend club double over Royal Wootton Bassett with a deserved victory to secure the Dorset and Wilts Plate

Marlborough Mustangs U13s  35  -  25  Royal Wootton Bassett U13s

On a beautiful Sunday morning, the Marlborough Mustangs (the MRFC U13 boys’ team) took on Royal Wootton Bassett in a match that would determine the winners of this season’s Dorset and Wilts Plate Competition.

Having secured their place in the Plate following a solitary loss in the group stages, the Mustangs have been on imperious form since Christmas, defeating Weymouth, Bournemouth and North Dorset en route to Sunday’s game.  They knew that a draw would be enough to secure the Plate but that they were up against a talented team who they had never previously beaten in any competition.

The large crowd were treated to a fantastic demonstration of running rugby from both sides, with skill, commitment and bravery on display across the field.  Royal Wootton Bassett are an excellent team but it was to be the Mustangs’ day.  They led for most of the match and, despite a late RWB comeback, ran out deserved winners by a score of 35-25.

The coaching teams of both sides highlighted what a cracking game it had been, most worthy of the occasion.  Despite the high stakes, the spirit and respect demonstrated by all was a superb advertisement of all that is good about rugby.  Ultimately, a fantastic win making Marlborough Mustangs the Dorset and Wilts Plate Champions for 2018/2019.
