Closure of George Lane Toilets - Town Council should think again

Written by Ken Culley on .

I am "moved" to write to you again about the closure of the George Lane Toilets.
Your article dated 31st March stated that annual running costs were £20,000 and Councillor Rose was quoted as saying that the facility would be closed "for a short time".
The notice now displayed on the premises states that "hopefully the toilets will be reopened in 2017" guess is that it may be late 2017.
The timeframe for the re-opening is hardly short and in my view the cost of maintaining the facility is affordable.  The Summer season will soon be upon us and tourists will hopefully make their journeys to our very attractive town and most will use the car parks around George Lane.  Both they and local residents should not be subject to a game of "find the loos".
Councillor Rose and her colleagues should think again.
