The Three Horseshoes closure - a disappointing outcome

Written by Gary Rawlinson on .

Sirs,

It is disappointing to hear that the Three Horseshoes in Burbage has been sold to a property developer, Red Star WSL Ltd, that has a track record of obtaining planning permission to convert pubs to houses.

At least with the French Horn, the sale to the same developer was sometime after the pub had been closed and attempts had been made to sell it as a pub.  In the case of the ‘Shoes, the pub was closed at very short notice and it would seem that Wadworth made no attempt to sell it as a pub.  Although Wadworth were, I understand, approached by a potential purchaser who was interested in running it as a pub, it would appear that the sale to Red Star was already in the offing.

For myself and others in Burbage, the closure and sale of the ‘Shoes in this way, to someone who might have no interest in it continuing as a pub, is disappointing.  We are of the view that many of the issues it has faced in recent years were self-inflicted, much of the culpability for this laying with Wadworth itself.  As such, we believe that the ’Shoes has a viable future with the right management and we would object to any planning application seeking a ‘change of use’.

Yours,

Gary Rawlinson
