Sports Direct, who acquired Jack Wills in a £12.8 million deal earlier in the month, have announced this week that the Marlborough store will close. The store, which opened only two years ago, is selling remaining stock heavily discounted and shoppers looking for a bargain should visit before its doors close for a final time.
Eight of the ninety-eight stores in the UK are closing and Sports Direct told the Financial Times on Thursday that other stores may close if they cannot negotiate lower rents with landlords. Most of the stores are situated in prime locations and recent sales figures do not support the high rents of these locations. Other stores closing are: Derby, Reigate, Rock, Tunbridge Wells, Durham, Kingston and St Albans.
Sports Direct have said that they hope to redeploy staff affected elsewhere in the company.
Meanwhile at the other end of Marlborough’s High Street it’s good news as SpaceNK opens in the former Nat West Bank building on Friday August 23 at 9.30 am.
“Join us for a very special opening celebration at our new Marlborough store. We will be opening our doors for the very first time on Friday 23rd August and welcoming beauty specialists from expert brands. You’ll enjoy mini facials, makeovers and more, plus, receive the ultimate beauty edit gift bag when you spend £100 or more in-store.”
