Easton Royal pupils go to the polls!Pupils at Easton Royal Academy held their own General Election on Thursday and voted for their new school council.
Candidates from all year groups prepared their manifestos. Each was based on a single project idea linked to one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. These Goals seek to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
Previous successful projects at the school have included ‘The Gender Equality Book Project’, ‘The Mystery Lesson’ (based on wellbeing) as well as a number of projects to encourage and protect wildlife.
As election fever swept the country, the pupils aged from four to eleven attended their own hustings and then placed their carefully considered votes in purpose built voting booths. Results will be announced later this week and the eight successful candidates will be able to start work as soon as possible.
Principal, Beck Barber-Stubbs, said, “It was brilliant to be able to time our school election to coincide with the General Election. This enabled the children to gain a deeper understanding of democracy We’re so proud of their thoughtful and empathic project ideas. These children are going to change the world!”
