Four superwomen to Ride the Night through London for cancer charitiesFour intrepid work colleagues from Royds Withy King Solicitors in Marlborough are cycling 50 km through the night in London to raise money for three women’s cancer charities. Elaine Glass, Becky Matthews, Dawn Patterson and Joanna Cox hope to raise over £800 for Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and they are looking for sponsorship.
The cycle ride takes place on Saturday May 23 and will pass famous London landmarks such as Westminster Abbey, the London Eye, Tate Modern and West End Theatres. Before setting out wearing bright pink high-viz vests, participants will be given a training warm-up at the 2012 Olympic Velodrome. Elaine will be providing Superwoman T-shirts for the team.
Dawn told Marlborough.news, “It’s such a good cause to raise money for. Everybody knows someone who has had cancer. I wanted to do this a few years ago but didn’t have the guts but now I’ve persuaded my colleagues to join me.”
“None of us are cyclists,” commented Jo. “Training has been hampered by the terrible weather and so we’ve not started riding yet. We’re looking forward to making good use of the Marlborough to Swindon cycle track and the coffee shop in Chiseldon!”
The four have, however, been busy fundraising for the event. On March 26 they are holding a charity curry night at the Jewel in the Crown in Swindon. Tickets are £25 pp for a set menu. A non-refundable deposit of £5 is required a week before the event.
