Claire Perry puts the Cabinet record straightDevizes MP Claire Perry was obviously infuriated with one of her Cabinet colleagues who had apparently given a story to The Daily Telegraph about the seven hour Cabinet meeting on Tuesday (April 2).
The Telegraph headline read: "Theresa May ignores Cabinet majority to keep no-deal Brexit on the table as she turns to Jeremy Corbyn for help".
Replying to the Telegraph, she tweeted: "I don't ever comment on Cabinet meetings but must do so now because your headline is based on totally inaccurate leaks from a colleague behaving reprehensibly. There were only FOUR cabinet members who spoke explicitly today in favour of no extension and no deal."
Several other political correspondents reported variously that up to fourteen members of Cabinet had spoken against abandoning a no deal Brexit.
On Wednesday's Channel 4 News Mrs Perry backed the Prime Minister's move towards reaching a Brexit compromise: "The first rule of politics is what are the numbers. If you haven't got the numbers you have to compromise."
She repeated that without the votes "...the logical conclusion is you have to compromise."
The Channel 4 News interviewer apologised - lightheartedly - for interrupting Mrs Perry's birthday.
