Vandals empty stretch of canalIn the early hours of Saturday morning a group of people deliberately opened the paddles of lock gates on the stretch of the Kennet and Avon Canal between Crofton and Great Bedwyn.
This left two of the canal's 'pounds' - the water impounded between two locks - empty.
A nearby householder was woken by the vandals and alerted the Canal and River Trust.
Engineers from the Trust were unable to re-fill the two pounds immediately. But by noon on Sunday one of the pounds had been re-filled and re-filling the other one was underway.
