St Francis School celebrates World Kindness Day

St Francis pupils with Nell Light from Home InsteadSt Francis pupils with Nell Light from Home InsteadPupils at St Francis School, Pewsey celebrated World Kindness Day, November 13, with a morning of activities showing kindness to themselves, their school and the local community.

Activities included painting Kindness Rocks, which the children will hide near their homes, making a Kindness Tree, practising Yoga and Mindfulness, writing thank you cards to members of staff and making an ‘Acts of Kindness’ advent calendar.

In the afternoon, children from the school’s Cookery Club made heart shaped shortbread biscuits and decorated them to give to users of ‘Home Instead’, a senior care company based in Pewsey.

Head of Pre-Prep at St Francis, Amanda Pilgrim, said,  “The children were so excited to share the biscuits they made.  It was a lovely way of showing how little acts of kindness can make a real difference to someone’s day.”

Year 3 class teacher Jessica Hesketh, who organised the day, said,  “It’s been fantastic.  The children have really embraced the creative activities and it’s been lovely to be able to spread the message of kindness to the local community.

It’s particularly appropriate that we celebrate World Kindness Day at St Francis, because kindness is one of the five St Francis core skills, which we call our CLICK skills (Collaboration, Leadership, Independence, Challenge and Kindness).”

World Kindness Day is celebrated annually on November 13 and was first launched twenty- one years ago by The World Kindness Movement.  The Movement, which has no political or religious affiliations, aims to inspire individuals and connect nations to create a kinder world.
