Oare pupils are eco warriors with the help of Orlando the penguin

Oare pupils with Excalibur Academies Trust swords and Orlando the penguinOare pupils with Excalibur Academies Trust swords and Orlando the penguinPupils at Oare School are eco aware and setting a good example to other Excalibur Academies Trust Primary Schools.  They have been chosen to be the first school to host the fluffy Environmental Champion, the Penguin of Power, as he begins his tour of Excalibur Primary Schools.

Gudrun Osborn is Principal of Oare, "We are absolutely delighted to be the first school to welcome the Penguin of Power, particularly as it meant that the children got to name the penguin - Orlando seemed very apt.”

The school has an active Eco Council who are working hard to make the school a village hub for recycling.  There are collection points for shoes, prescription glasses, batteries and popped inflatables, with more planned.

The Oare pupils carried out an environmental review which led them to focus on reducing the school’s energy use. They also carry out regular litter picks and single use plastic is banned from the school.

Last term a Switch-Off Fortnight was held which really highlighted just how much energy it is possible to save.

The school has been developing a curriculum that ensures the children are educated towards becoming global citizens with a real understanding and love of the world they live in.
