Cricket: Excellent season concludes with a (rare) home defeat to Swindon

Despite defeat at home to Swindon in the match - kindly sponsored by J Bates and Son plumbing of Marlborough - in the final league game of the season, Marlborough skipper Tom Norris was rightly proud of his teams achievement of finishing 3rd in the league.  "The best team won the league and we can be proud of our season with such a young side and hopefully next season we can be challenging".

On Saturday after winning the toss and batting Swindon reached an impressive 262-3 off their 50 overs thanks mainly to a brilliant 121 not out from opener Ardil Domingo who shared an opening stand of 132 with fellow opener Marc Williamson 54.  Paul Paginton chipped in with a useful 43 not out while Bob Homani 1-41 and Harrison Painter 1-49 were the wicket takers for the home side.

In reply Bob Homani top scored for Marlborough with 67 as Marlborough were bowled out for 150 in the 45th over with Domingo 3-12, Scott Edmed 2-15 and Nigel Dunstain 2-17 the leading wicket takers for Swindon.

Marlborough also enjoyed a double promotion weekend as the 2nd team won the Wiltshire 2nd 11 league under Captain Nick Down and the 3rd 11 under Captain Ed Puddick sealed the Wiltshire Division 8 league crown.
