Cricket: Crabbe's class with help from George outfoxes Marshfield

Marlborough hit back from successive defeats to beat Marshfield by 87 runs at home in the game kindly sponsored by The Lamb Inn of the parade in Marlborough.

Put into bat by the visitors the weather claimed 3 overs as Marlborough hit 230 of their 47 overs thanks to another elegant knock from opener Nick Crabbe who continued his recent good form with 85.

Important contributions from Ben Head 25, James Richardson 25 and 19 from skipper Tom Norris meant that Marshfield faced a highly competitive total when they went out to bat after tea. Tom Bright with 3-63 shone the brightest of the Marshfield bowlers.

Marlborough opening bowler George Fox then produced a brilliant spell of bowling getting movement and lift to end with figures of 3-29 and as usual star all rounder Ben Head chipped in with 3-27 as Marshfield crumbled to 143 all out with only Dave Jenkins 47 not out and Russell Lodge 42 providing any real Marshfield resistance to a professional bowling display from the home side.

Head capped a fine day for himself and his team mates by also taking the catch of the decade so far at Marlborough with a sensational one handed over the head catch at gully much to the batsmen's understandable bewilderment. Trees skipper Tom Norris was a pleased man " Today was all about Nick Crabbe and the return to form George Fox"

Marlborough 2nds remain firmly in the promotion hunt after Nick Down's men scored an impressive victory at Chippenham in a rain affected game
