Cricket: Top win for Trees keeps them firmly in the hunt

Marlborough scored an impressive 37 away day victory at Purton to keep the Savernake Forest based outfit firmly in the title hunt. B

atting first after winning the toss Marlborough scored 157 all out with middle order batsmen Tom Jacques scoring a vital 36 with wicket keeper George Penfold scoring a crucial 27 to ensure that the Marlborough bowlers had a decent total to defend.

The pressure was on but the Marlborough bowlers bowled superbly and with excellent back up in the field Marlborough scored an impressive win by dismissing the home side for 120 all out. Opening bowler George Fox once again bowled superbly taking 3-46 while Will Langton and Ben Head both bagged a pair of wickets.

Skipper Tom Norris said " It was a great knock from Tom and George and then Will and Fox along with Ben set the tone with the ball and there was fantastic catching from Penfold, Jacques and Wingfield-Digby"

Meanwhile Marlborough 2nds continued their fine season with victory at home to Hatherley in the game very kindly sponsored by the Marlborough Anglican Church team. Raghuveer Tupurani scoring an entertaining 60 with a swashbuckling innings.
