An initiative to get women back into netball in Marlborough has proved so popular it already has enough players to field more than four teams.
Since the initiative started in September, 30 women have been tempted back to the netball court, with weekly attendances of around 18 players.
Jointly developed by Wiltshire Council and Wiltshire Netball the ‘pay and play’ sessions are giving women in and around Marlborough the opportunity to play casual netball with no long term commitment.
There are two sessions running: one every Tuesday from 11am until 12pm, and the second everyWednesday evening between 8pm and 9pm.
Each session usually consists of some passing practices, small team games to work on attacking or defending and then a game.
Dominique Oughton, who joined the programme at the start, said: “I traditionally have always been into my running and fitness which is very individual, so to do a team sport has been great fun. I have made new friends within the town and the sessions have been very relaxed.
“It’s surprising how much you remember from your schools days. I would recommend any female of any age or ability to come along. It’s great fun, we are a friendly group of ladies and getting fit at the same time.”
