Runners are being invited to put their best feet forward to help fund a new school classroom at St Katharine’s School.
The inaugural Savernake 10K in being held on Saturday, July 9. Starting in the school grounds, cross country runners will wend their way through the historic and beautiful Savernake Forest.
Some of the course will cross private land, giving runners unique access to unexplored woodland trails.
The event also includes a 3K fun run for adults and children and, for non-runners, a village fete atmosphere with vintage ice cream van, tea and coffee, cake and BBQ on the school grounds.
Winners’ prizes will be provided for all categories and every person to complete the course will receive a unique, custom-made medal.
Organisers hope the race will become an annual fixture in the calendars of local runners.
The run is being held to help swell the coffers of the school classroom fund. The increasingly-popular school, which attracts children from well beyond the parish, will reopen after the summer holidays with a fourth classroom for Year 6 students.
Savernake Run organiser Laura Bone said: “This is definitely a race with the emphasis on fun. We’ll have medals for all and a fantastic BBQ for runners and supporters alike.
“Local landowners have been fantastic in giving us permission to use the route we’ve selected, so runners will see bits of the forest they don’t normally get access to.”
The 10km race kicks off at 9.30am, with the 3km following at 11am. Entry costs £10 for the 10K and £5 for the 3K. Commemorative tee shirts are available for £10 (adults) and £8 (children).
